the givers bless and the takers are blessed.
i lost my wallet about 3 weeks ago. ever since then, i had to use a "makeshift" wallet, called a plastic bag.
it looked really pathetic. i have the money to buy a new wallet. but its just that i do not have the luxury of time to buy.
i also have this habit of "punishing myself" whenever i lose something - that is not to buy anything new to replace it.
the plastic bag with all my notes, cards, and coins inside looked so funny, it amused some of my friends a lot.
it amused me too. i looked really "uncle". i knew that having a new wallet would be much better for myself. but i just did not go about buying it.
then a few days ago, my friend daryl causally said that he would give me his old wallet just for the time being. maybe he saw that i was really pathetic.
i forgot about that comment and did not bother about having his old wallet.
but yesterday he officially gave me his old wallet when i went to his house. true, it was old and a bit tattered. but it really beats having a plastic bag. he took his old wallet out of a box and passed it to me. he did not even hesitate one bit.
believe it or not, i was touched by this gesture of generosity. i felt blessed! it was like, "hey! at least someone cares enough to pass me his old wallet for my use!"
later, i showed my mom and she nagged at me like why should i take things from my friend when i could have easily bought a new one.
i brushed her off and said that daryl does not mind giving it to me at all.
well, the moral of the story?
it is the little act of giving, loving, caring that touches someone's heart. like when you tell someone that you have been praying for him/her, like when you go over to a grieving friend and say that you understand, like when you lend some money to a friend who is in need financially, like when you just want to be there to comfort your friend who is feeling down, like when you give your old wallet to a friend who is using a plastic bag for his coins.
who knows? that your little act of love might have prevented someone from taking his/her own life? that your little act of concern might have brighten up someone's day?
so now, when was the last time you did something nice for your friend, for your cell group leader, for your parents?
if you have not, for a very long time, then you might be getting a bit more self-centred lately.
because, it is those who GIVE, who are truly blessed.
to others, or even daryl himself, it might be so simple. but to me, it was significant.
i know he is blessed because he blessed me.
take note of the brown wallet i am carrying! haha!
